Minerals and waste sites and planning policy

The County Council is responsible for all planning matters relating to waste and minerals development

The responsibility of the County Council is to protect Hampshire by making sure the right minerals and waste developments are in the right place, at the right time.

The Hampshire Authorities (Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council, New Forest National Park Authority and the South Downs National Park Authority), are responsible for ensuring sufficient extraction and supply of minerals up to 2030.

The Hampshire Authorities adopted the current Hampshire Minerals and Waste Plan in 2013. This document explains the objectives and strategy for minerals and waste planning. It contains detailed policies and locations for future minerals extraction (such as sand and gravel pits or crushed rock quarries) and for the development of waste management facilities, such as recycling centres.
