Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) and Disability Access Fund (DAF)

These are two additional sources of funding that your provider could potentially claim to support your child.

Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)

Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) will provide nurseries, pre-schools and childminders with extra funding to support children in achieving the best early years outcomes.

1. Eligibility criteria

You must meet the eligibility criteria, which is being expanded to include all children in receipt of funded childcare hours, when the entitlement changes from April 2024.

2. Apply for the EYPP

When your child becomes eligible for early years education funding, the childcare provider will need to ask you some additional questions to support them to apply for EYPP.

If you think your family meets the eligibility criteria, the next steps are:

  • Speak to your childcare provider and let them know.
  • You must complete part 4 of the Parent Declaration form (which your provider will supply).

3. How the EYPP helps your child and others

The Early Years Pupil Premium can help by providing:

  • extra training for staff
  • support for developing children's speech and language and learning
  • greater links between the early education setting and families
  • further opportunities and experiences to prepare children with starting school

Early years education providers will have to effectively demonstrate to Ofsted how funds have been used to improve children's education.

See examples of how EYPP funding is used in early years settings.

Disability Access Fund (DAF)

The Disability Access Fund (DAF) is money that childcare providers can use to support children with disabilities or special educational needs. The aim of the DAF is to help give children who are disabled access to childcare, by making reasonable adjustments to their settings or helping with building capacity.

1. Eligibility criteria

Children will be eligible for the DAF if they meet the following criteria:

2. Apply for DAF

If you think your child meets the eligibility criteria, you will need to give a copy of the DLA award letter to your early years childcare setting and complete part 4, question 4.3 on the Parent Declaration form. If your child attends more than one setting for their EYE funded hours, you must nominate which setting you wish to claim the DAF.
