Pinus (pine)
The pines in the Gardens’ large National Collection come from all over the temperate world – especially North America, Mexico and Asia.
Among the 692 individual plants in the collection are the rarely cultivated Pinus coulteri, known as the ‘Widow maker’, with the heaviest cone of any conifer, and Pinus montezumae, the incredible long needle pine.
Pinus Mugo ‘Winter Gold pine’ is a highly decorative, unusual and imposing variety, with twisted needle-like leaves.
