Get crafting with the kids and create your very own pinecone Christmas tree decoration. It’s a simple and easy Christmas craft that’s perfect for adding a personal touch to this year’s tree, or even as a gift. You’re sure to have a lot of fun too!

You will need:

  • pinecones
  • a paintbrush
  • green paint
  • glue
  • twine
  • decorations for your tree (ribbons, stickers, cotton wool, felt, bells).

Please remember:

Only collect pinecones that have fallen to the ground and don’t take more than you need. Most craft shops sell pinecones if you can’t find them in your local park or woodland.

Step 1 - Make sure your pinecone has dried out before painting the whole thing green. Be sure to get into all the gaps!

Step 2 - Once the paint is dry, it’s time to get creative. Decorate your tree however you like with whatever materials you have. You can use twine or ribbon for tinsel, stickers or felt shapes as ornaments, and cotton wool or white paint for snow. The possibilities are endless – just don’t forget the star on top!

Step 3 – When you are happy with your decorations, make a stand for your pinecone Christmas tree by cutting a couple centimetres off the end of a toilet paper roll or use twine to hang it from the tree with pride.

“O, Christmas tree, O, Christmas tree…”
