Harry Chadwick

Harry Chadwick is a sculptural artist working predominantly in metal, I weld, roll, fold, and form metal into sculptural pieces.

My current body of work Seers is an observation of the human condition. As we are now in the full flow of post pandemic life, families and folk have moved out into the world away from the digital environment we lived in during that time. So much of what we had before and didn’t appreciate is more precious now, those conversations in person and staring out into the world in wonderment. The Seers whilst they don’t speak seem to say so much depending how they are viewed or interpreted by the observer. The bright Pop Art colours used make them stand out in the environment so as to beckon the viewer in and to lift their day no matter the weather.

Like all my work I always endeavour to please and promote discussion because that for me is what art should do, bring people together through conversation.

Artist statement

Seers, my collection of pop art-coloured figures, serve as a visual commentary on the ever-shifting nuances of the human condition. Vibrant and dynamic, these figures encapsulate the kaleidoscope of emotions that define our existence. With bold hues, they mirror the dichotomy between joy and sadness, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate dance of our shared humanity. Through Seers, I aim to distil the essence of emotional complexity, providing a colourful lens through which to observe and connect with the diverse tapestry of human experience.

Production

The Seers are produced from sheet steel, the fronts and backs are cut using a CNC Plasma cutter. The sides are cut by hand with a grinder once the heads have been attached as each Seer, even those of a similar height have different sized bodies just like us. The heads are made from rolled steel or pipe. Finally, they are powder coated.
