Long Lane Marchwood, Footway Improvements

Last update: June 2024

Scheme overview

The proposed scheme will help to improve pedestrian accessibility and safety by providing the missing link of approximately 50m of new footway linking two existing footways in Long Lane which extends through a residential estate.

Vegetation clearance on the northern side of Long Lane will be carried out to help improve visibility and will allow the extension of the existing footway to a point just east of the Southampton Football Club training ground entrance.  An area of grass verge will be in place to segregate the footway from the adjacent fences.

Approval to progress with implementation of the scheme was given at the Executive Member for Environment and Transport Decision Day . The scheme is currently under review.

Funding Arrangements
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
