Hampshire County Council appointed Rocon Contractors Ltd to deliver both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the improvement works on Roe Downs Road, Medstead. These works were designed to provide a safe walking route to Medstead Church of England Primary School from both northbound and southbound directions, improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians.
Phase 2 included the construction of a new footway extending from the village speed limit sign at the south-eastern end of the road to the entrance of the Tennis Club, along with the installation of an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing. These improvements aim to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians, particularly for those walking to school, who can now continue their journey using the existing pavement.
Please see Phase 1 & Phase 2 location and improvement plan (Microsoft Sway document).
Phase 1 improvements focused on creating a safe pedestrian route from the Village Hall car park. The works included:
- construction of a new footpath connecting from the Village Hall car park
- installation of an uncontrolled crossing point
- white painted lines within the Village Hall car park to create a safe pedestrian route linking to the newly constructed footpath
Phase 2 improvements delivered:
- construction, surfacing, and kerbing of a new footway from the village speed limit sign at the south-eastern end of the road to the entrance of the Tennis Club
- installation of tactile paving at the uncontrolled crossing
- installation of a filter drain adjacent to the road to manage rainwater
These improvements aim to enhance safety and accessibility for pedestrians, particularly for those walking to school, who can now continue their journey using the existing pavement.
