Works completed May 2026.
Hampshire County Council appointed Rocon Contractors Ltd to deliver highway improvement works at the village entry gateway on Whichers Gate Road. The works included the construction of a new road build out with a *cycle bypass, designed to allow cyclists to pass safely around the narrowed section.
The scheme introduces priority for eastbound traffic leaving the village. In addition, bollards, signage, kerbing were installed and new road markings on Whichers Gate Road.
*A cycle bypass is a dedicated, unobstructed path that lets cyclists avoid the narrowed section, maintaining their safety and flow without needing to merge into traffic or stop.
- Scheme overview
-
A package of works is proposed to enhance the village centre, specifically along Whichers Gate Road. The improvements aim to calm traffic through the installation of build-outs with cycle bypasses, supporting safer and more accessible movement. The scheme has been developed in collaboration with Havant Borough Council.
- Funding Arrangements
- Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
