Last update: June 2026

Schemes Overview

Stakes Hill Road is a key movement route into Waterlooville for people walking, wheeling and cycling between the town centre and areas to the south.  Walk, Wheel Cycle trust (formerly known as Sustrans) and Hampshire County Council invited the community to help shape the design of improvements to it, with a view to applying for funding to improve it. Please read the engagement findings report and summary note.

The Stakes Hill project will aim to design improvements that create high quality facilities for walking, wheeling and cycling, between the Stakes Hill junction with Frendstaple Road, and the town centre. This may include improvements to footways, places to rest, improved crossings, cycle space, biodiversity, managing traffic volumes, and reducing rat-running in the wider area.

Funding Arrangements
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
