Feedback Survey Results

The report summarises key findings from the feedback survey which took place from 11 September to 22 October 2023 . This was an opportunity for local residents and businesses to provide their views on the proposed improvement scheme.

You can still read the information pack. The feedback from the engagement will be used to inform the next stage of scheme design.

Scheme overview

Hampshire County Council is developing a scheme to improve accessibility along the High Street, West End between Chapel Road and West End Road.

As a local high street it serves a range of functions as a popular local shopping destination and a busy through-route. As such it has a variety of competing needs for different users such as pedestrians requiring access to local businesses.

The scheme aims to improve the quality of the place and make it more of an attractive area for those who live, work and shop in West End.

This could be done by:

  • Widening footways and providing more space for people;
  • Reducing street clutter and street furniture such as railings and sign posts;
  • Enhancing crossing provision across the road as well as providing priority for pedestrians at side roads

Funding Arrangements
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
