Blue Haze landfill site, Chatsworth

There is only one landfill site in Hampshire that takes household waste. It could be full within 5 to 10 years.

The site is filled in cells which are covered with a layer of soil at the end of each day. Once buried, the waste biodegrades. This can take many years, depending on the type of waste. The waste produces landfill gas, mainly methane. A network of pipes collects the gas.
