Portsmouth Materials Recovery Facility
Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) separate dry mixed recyclables:
- newspapers
- magazines
- plastic bottles
- tins
- cans
The materials are separated by type and baled up. They are sent to private companies for recycling.
Hampshire has two MRFs, in Portsmouth and Alton. The two facilities can handle up to 157,000 tonnes of recyclables every year.
