Get ready to cast your vote in the Hampshire County Council elections

Hampshire residents will go to the polls on Thursday 7 May 2026 to cast their votes in the Hampshire County Council elections

Feb 19 2026

In Hampshire, each of the 78 councillor positions representing 76 divisions across the county will be up for election. The elections are an opportunity for people to have their say on issues that affect everyone’s daily lives – from education and schools, to roads, social care for vulnerable adults and children, as well as public spaces like libraries and country parks.

Everyone who wishes to vote will need to be registered by 20 April. Voters will then be able to cast their vote on 7 May in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote. Anyone voting in person will need to bring photo ID.

Gary Westbrook, the County Returning Officer and Hampshire County Council Chief Executive, said: “The County Council elections are an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on the issues that directly affect all our daily lives in Hampshire. If you have recently turned 18 or moved home, it is particularly important that you ensure that you are registered to vote. If you were registered to vote in the last elections and your details have not changed, you don’t need to take any action. If in doubt, you can check with your local district or borough council.”

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 21 April, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on 28 April.

Information on how to apply for postal and proxy votes can be found on the County Council’s website. This page will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
