Your vote, Your County Council – Notices of Election published for 2026

The statutory Notices of Election for the Hampshire County Council elections have been published today (25 March 2026), marking the start of the official timetable ahead of polling day on Thursday 7 May 2026

Mar 25 2026

On this date, residents across Hampshire will elect 78 County Councillors to represent them on the County Council - delivering important services used by 1.4 million people. These services range from schools and education, to roads, social care for vulnerable children and adults, libraries, tips and country parks.

To take part in the County Council elections, people must be on the electoral register; the deadline to register is Monday 20 April.

Gary Westbrook, County Returning Officer and Hampshire County Council Chief Executive, said: “Voting is one of the simplest and most important ways to have a say in the services that affect all our daily lives from the roads we use every day to support for vulnerable people in our communities. I would encourage everyone who is eligible, to take part in this year’s County Council elections.”

Residents can vote in person, by post or by proxy, and anyone voting in person will need to bring an accepted form of photo ID.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April.

Candidates standing in the elections will be formally announced by 4pm on Friday 10 April.
