High Street, West End

Hampshire County Council is developing a scheme to improve accessibility along the High Street, West End between Chapel Road and West End Road.
As a local high street it serves a range of functions as a popular local shopping destination and a busy through-route. As such it has a variety of competing needs for different users such as pedestrians requiring access to local businesses.
The scheme aims to improve the quality of the place and make it more of an attractive area for those who live, work and shop in West End.
This could be done by:
- Widening footways and providing more space for people;
- Reducing street clutter and street furniture such as railings and sign posts;
- Enhancing crossing provision across the road as well as providing priority for pedestrians at side roads
