Petition - Remove the yellow lines preventing resident parking in Chandlers Ford

Response from Hampshire County Council, November 2024

Thank you for the petition you sent to Hampshire County Council regarding the removal of the time limited parking restriction within certain roads in Chandler’s Ford.

Your request is to allow residents like yourself to park outside of their homes all day and to allow trades to visit properties and particularly to permit parking to assist those who need care.

The parking restrictions covering this area of Chandler’s Ford were implemented by Test Valley Borough Council acting as our agents, against priorities at the time.

The County Council’s current policy is to support traffic management or parking control changes, where evidence clearly indicates that they will offer direct benefits to road casualty reduction, focusing on sites where there is a related and recurring road casualty collision history, and where a treatable pattern or common cause of casualty collisions can be identified. I am afraid this location is a low priority for the investigation of traffic management measures and no further action is planned.

It is noted in your petition that a neighbour who requires heath care visits has changed the times of their visits. The restriction is only in place from 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm Monday to Friday, so leaving large periods of the day available for the short-term parking generally required by carers and health visitors attending properties without their own driveway.

In certain circumstances, where building work or removals are taking place, a request for a parking dispensation to park on yellow lines can be made via this link.

I am sorry that this is not the response that you wished to receive, but hope it explains the Council’s position.

Yours sincerely
