Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and what it means for procurement and tendering

In March 2026, the Government announced its intended future structure for local government across Hampshire and the wider Solent area and selected a preferred proposal. This decision was withdrawn by the Government on Monday 7 September.

In response to the announcement, LGR implementation activity across the programme has been paused pending the outcome of the Government's review and any further direction from Government. Further LGR updates will be provided here as more information becomes available.

What happens next?

At this stage, there are no immediate changes. Hampshire County Council remains fully responsible and accountable for delivering its services as usual.

All existing contractual, financial, and commissioning arrangements remain in place. This announcement does not require any changes to our current relationship with your organisation, and we are pleased to continue working with you to deliver great public services.
