Bowie Heer
Principal Building Surveyor
I started my career as a Surveyor in 1988 in the social housing sector and joined Hampshire County Council Property Services as a Management Surveyor in 2005, I acted as the point of contact for managing the queries around the service we deliver, from projects to reactive maintenance works to around 35 schools. This role expanded my knowledge and skill in the corporate and non-housing sector.
In 2009, I was promoted to a Principle Building Surveyor, managing the Adult Health Care estate and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service portfolio. These consist of 45 older person and younger adults care homes, 52 fire stations on the mainland and 10 on the Isle of Wight. I also deliver projects for the Children Services fostering team. I manage the delivery of projects across these estates, with a multi-million annual budget, assisted by a very able team of Surveyors and a Property Services Officer.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was proud to contribute to the care sector by re-commissioning a hospital discharge care facility in Gosport. The facility was an 83-bedroom, 3-storey care home, where patients could be relocated from the local hospital to assist in their recovery, so they were able to return home. This was a challenging project as we had a short turnaround time and the need to release beds in the hospitals was increasing, but I am proud to have led our internal team and external contractors to get the facility up and running.
The County Council provide me with continuing personal and professional development which has allowed me the opportunity to progress through the organisation and to develop myself.
