Callum Maidment
Degree Apprentice
In September 2021 I joined Hampshire County Council (HCC) Property Services as a Degree Apprentice, hoping to gain the skills and qualifications required to become a Chartered Building Surveyor. From the outset, I have been exposed to a wide range of building surveying competencies and worked alongside other professionals which has greatly developed my skills and knowledge.
Working at HCC Property Services has enabled me to work on a wide variety of projects from conception all the way through to completion, which is something I find very rewarding. For example, last year I was able to work on the Decarbonisation Programme, helping schools and other HCC properties reduce their carbon footprint, which is something I was proud to be part of as we look toward a greener future.
Alongside my work at HCC, I am fully supported with my undergraduate studies which include a day a week during term time at Portsmouth University. The goal is to achieve my building surveying degree and to progress to completing my APC to gain chartership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead and how my career develops within HCC Property Services.
