Douglas Orrell

I joined Hampshire County Council in 2022 as a Compliance Officer, following an Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation completed in 2007 and a range of Building Services roles in the commercial sector.

Later that year I moved into my current role as Reactive and Cyclical Maintenance Engineer for West Hampshire. In partnership with the term contractor, I look after planned maintenance and reactive repairs for all types of fixed electrical equipment on the estate – from lifts and generators, to sockets and switches. This is across the west of Hampshire and covers a wide range of site categories, each with their own diverse maintenance needs.

I enjoy the variety of issues I am involved with; every day presents different challenges and it is certainly an interesting and rewarding role. I have found Hampshire County Council a supportive place to work, as I am able to draw on the expertise and experience of others across different teams to solve problems.

I am looking forward to taking advantage of future learning opportunities to further develop my skills, both from a technical and professional perspective.
