Graham Anderson
Architectural Technologist
I joined Hampshire County Council Property Services through an Architectural Technology bursary for the summer of 2008. This became a full-time role, with the service supporting me to complete my degree in ‘Architectural Technology’ part-time. Several years later I was also able to undertake further training with the support of the County Council, undertaking a Masters in Sustainable Architecture and eventually becoming a Chartered Member of ‘CIAT’ the professional body for Architectural Technologists (AT).
As an AT within the practice I have been deployed across multiple public building projects, gaining a vast breadth of experience covering all facets of the profession. I am largely involved in the preparation of detailed design information, specifications, technical reviews, building control applications, and supporting projects on site with contract administration. I have also consulted on projects at masterplan stage and in concept design, producing ‘artist impression’ style visuals for planning applications and client meetings.
Particular highlights for me as project lead have been the delivery of the transformation of the Army Flying Museum through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and the delivery of a new volumetric 42 place Nursery building for Kings Furlong Infant School. I also led on the construction information packages and on-site works of the recent improvements to the Theatre Royal in Winchester.
What I enjoy about Hampshire County Council is the support of colleagues who can help guide the dynamic and challenging public projects, and the impact those projects have on the lives of the service users in Hampshire, and external client authorities. As a father of two young boys, the County Council support a healthy work/life balance, giving me the flexibility I need for modern parenting.
