Graham Jenkins
Minor Works Surveyor
I joined Hampshire County Council in 2022 having spent more than 22 years in the private sector, where I managed a small construction business, which provided me with a wealth of skills and knowledge. These experiences have given me a fantastic opportunity, to contribute to the established Property Services team whilst also furthering my knowledge and skills.
My role is varied, which involves meeting a wide range of people in different roles both inside and outside of the Council. This has allowed me to develop a wealth of new working relationships.
As a surveyor, I am responsible for capturing and carrying out projects that are too big for our reactive maintenance team but too small for the project surveyors. I take these projects from inception through to completion. The projects range from small improvements such as the intercom/door entry system for one of our Adult Services sites to larger projects like the structural stabilisation of a 16th Century cottage at a Nature Reserve.
The vast estate portfolio within Hampshire County Council offers me the chance to work across the county’s varied buildings and involves surveying sites, devising schemes for improvements and refurbishments.
Property Services have a clear interest in the development of their teams, and this has enabled me to do in-house continuous professional development sessions (CPD) and training, including a refresher AutoCAD course.
After a year in the role, I am very much enjoying the variety of challenges that the role offers, which are rewarding and educational.
