Ian Slade
Construction Health and Safety (CDM) Manager
My career in construction started over 30 years ago, but in 2004 I moved into construction Health and Safety (H&S) from surveying as a career step, and subsequently obtained my NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational H&S.
My background, combined with my technical qualifications and experience, make me a construction H&S specialist and this, alongside my previous Local Authority employment, meant that when I saw the job advertised for Property Services in Hampshire County Council (HCC) I knew it was for me, and I joined in 2019.
My intuition served me well and I find my job in Technical Services both exciting and challenging, professionally satisfying, and feel valued as part of a great team of complimentary professionals, and within the wider Property Services and HCC.
Now, as part of the management team in Technical Services, I feel that my skills and knowledge are appreciated and sought, and that my line management invests in my development.
I enjoy the stimulating work we do and how we support our clients, but I also enjoy supporting colleagues in their professional queries. Particularly the younger and less experienced members of staff who may be just starting out in their careers and helping them broaden their knowledge is especially rewarding.
The variation in the work across our estate and for our clients certainly means that no two days are ever the same!
