Jamie Cox
Senior Engineer (Mechanical)
I joined Hampshire County Council (HCC) in September 2021 as a Reactive & Cyclical Maintenance Engineer, becoming part of a team that provides mechanical and electrical support to a large and varied portfolio of properties across the county.
As a team we manage and deliver thousands of planned maintenance tasks a year, including both reactive and remedial work. These tasks, such as a boiler failure in a care home, often require a very quick turnaround, and as such, our work is busy, and there’s always a new challenge to be resolved, which I thoroughly enjoy.
Another huge positive about working at HCC is that there’s plenty of support. Colleagues are always willing to share knowledge, fostering a collaborative, and supportive working environment.
In addition, the training opportunities provided by HCC have enabled me to complete a HNC in Construction & Building Services with Portsmouth University, which has progressed my career within the organisation and enabled me to take up the position of Senior Engineer.
If I had to pick a single favourite aspect of my role; I would probably say the variety. With such a wide range of buildings and people to interact with, every day is different and interesting.
