Jamie Cox
Reactive and Cyclical Maintenance Engineer
I joined Hampshire County Council (HCC) in September 2021 as a Reactive and Cyclical Maintenance Engineer and became part of a team that provides mechanical and electrical support to a large and varied portfolio of properties across the county. I deal with mechanical issues at schools, nursing homes, libraries, offices and museums.
As a team we manage and deliver thousands of planned maintenance tasks a year, along with both reactive and remedial work which usually requires a quick turnaround, such as a boiler going down in a care home resulting in the heating and hot water not working. My work is busy and varied, and there’s always a new challenge or issue to be resolved, which I thoroughly enjoy.
Another huge positive about working at HCC is that there’s plenty of support. Colleagues in Property Services are always willing to share knowledge between teams, fostering a collaborative, and supportive working environment.
There are also training opportunities and I am currently undertaking a HNC in Construction and Building Services.
If I had to pick a single favourite aspect of my role; I would probably say the variety. With such a wide range of buildings and people to interact with, every day is different and interesting.
