Lee Purkiss
Senior Building Surveyor
I joined Hampshire County Council’s (HCC) Property Services department as a Degree Apprentice in September 2018 with the ambition of becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor.
I had previously completed my Apprenticeship as a Carpenter and went on to study a Higher National Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment one day a week whilst working four days on site.
When I started at HCC, I joined the University of Portsmouth as a direct entry student to begin studying for my Building Surveying degree via the degree apprenticeship route, alongside my Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. On completion I secured a first class honours degree, and six months later successfully passed my APC to become a Chartered Building Surveyor.
I work on Corporate Estate projects and previously I delivered Primary Schools work. I deliver a range of projects for internal and external clients in my role as Principal Designer and Contract Administrator. My experiences with HCC span from repair and maintenance project work to managing a capital programme. One of the projects I led on was the complete replacement of the pitched roof at Marchwood Junior School, and my next project involves repairs to the lead roof and stonework at The Great Hall.
I enjoy the variety of my role, the flexible and collaborative working approach, and I have benefited from receiving high quality support from a whole range of in-house building professionals, to help me develop from a Degree Apprentice to a Chartered Building Surveyor.
