The theme of National Apprenticeship Week this year is “Skills for Life”; reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills. This week is a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on these hugely valued members of our team.
We currently have degree apprentice building surveyors, estates surveyors and engineers, as well as management, business improvement, print and project management apprentices.
But why do we take on apprentices?
Sue Oliver, Planned Maintenance Manager, explains that:
“Our degree building surveying apprentices bring a fresh perspective to their team and have been enthusiastic and keen to learn. The people who train and mentor them have said they get a lot out of this and feel particular satisfaction as they become more independent in their work completing their own projects.”
Sally Miles, Print and Document Services Manager says:
“We currently have three apprentices, all through the BPIF (British Printing Industries Federation), who is the largest supplier of apprenticeships to the printing industry. They are all studying for Print Technician (Level 3).
Not only does this apprenticeship benefit our employees enormously by supporting them to develop their skills and knowledge that are directly relevant to their jobs, it provides us with an equal amount of knowledge throughout the entire team. They become attuned to our business, and we have found that it is a productive and effective way to grow talent.”
Our apprentices say that some of the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship is being able to use skills learnt at university in the work-setting, and that the experience gained with us is invaluable.
You can hear from some of our current and past building surveying apprentices, Dan, Luke, Eve, and Alex (pictured above) who have shared their thoughts during National Apprenticeship Week
Keep an eye out for available apprenticeships
