OurDay 2018

This national tweetathon in November is for local government to show the variety of activities carried out by staff as they go about their daily work. The range of work of our multi-disciplinary Property Services team is diverse and probably not always what you would expect!

Our day began with our cost managers reviewing key construction projects. They are currently working on £60 million worth of projects! We also welcomed a new member of staff to our cost managers team.

Collaborative working is an integral part of our service. Just one example from the day was a useful contract meeting, working with SUEZ, our waste collection contractor; our colleagues in Hampshire Fire Service and Hampshire Police.

Liaising with and visiting schools is just one of the many roles that our building surveyors carry out.

One of these surveyors, Howard, met with the school and a contractor to discuss gate controls on a visit to Charles Kingsley Primary School near Yateley.

We are fortunate to also work on many historic buildings, including the Chapel at Royal Victoria Country Park, Reading Abbey Ruins, Whitchurch Silk Mill, The D-Day Story in Portsmouth and Gilbert White’s Museum at Selborne. Our heritage team reviewed these and caught up about other exciting projects.

Do you remember the Charolais cows who played a starring role in #OurDay 2017? Well, in 2018 it was a different animal – a pig. The rather handsome chap caught the eye of Rosie, one of our Rural Estates Surveyor who was busy undertaking husbandry inspections on farms owned by the County Council. We think you’ll agree, we have a new star!

Who will steal the show in #OurDay 2019? Follow us to find out!
