Further information for parents

Our Educational Psychologists (EPs) are committed to developing an inclusive education system and society where every child can achieve.

Whether your child or young person is already working with our Educational Psychologists (EPs) or you’re looking for more information about how we can get involved, we are here to support you.

If you're a parent looking for support or a listening ear, contact us.

Supporting transitions

All education settings (e.g. nurseries, schools, and colleges) have a process for supporting children through key transitions, like the move from preschool to primary school. These systems are especially important for vulnerable children and young people and exist to guide them through this experience.

Find out more by contacting your child’s teacher or school. Or call our Telephone Support line for more general support and advice.

Loss and bereavement

When telling a child someone has died or is very unwell, there’s no ‘best way’ to communicate with them. However, we’ve created some guidance and suggestions of things to consider.

Critical incident support: Help and information for parents and carers.

Private assessments

Our service is only accessible through schools and other settings who commission us through a service level agreement (SLA). This means we’re unable to provide private assessments. However, if you’re looking for a private Educational Psychologist, we recommend that you choose a HCPC-registered practitioner.

Emotionally Based School Avoidance

If your child has high levels of anxiety and does not want to attend school, they may be experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).

For more information about EBSA, read our booklet with information for parents and carers

Home educated children

We are a local authority service and cannot be privately commissioned to work with electively home educated children.

If your child cannot attend school in person but is still enrolled, please speak with setting staff to find out whether our service can become involved in providing support/advice.
