Outdoor Achievements

Our most popular programme, Outdoor Achievements, offers young people a programme of 1-1 support through weekly outdoor sessions available within Hampshire SEN.

This programme supports:

  • life skills
  • communication
  • resilience
  • sense of self-worth
  • enhancing future achievement, attainment and success

Our team work closely with the young person and their support network to create a bespoke package of day sessions. Each session will typically be 4-5 hours with us (although we often start with shorter ‘tasters’).

Activities are tailored to the young persons’ interests and needs but can include anything from feeding the sheep and outdoor cooking at our Study Centre in Minstead to archery, climbing, mountain-biking, shelter-building or wild art sessions. Programmes will be progressive as the young person engages.

Where appropriate, young people may work towards achievements through nationally recognised youth awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and John Muir Award, or other adventurous activity awards.

The Access Adventure team provide termly reports and attend meetings with education and healthcare professionals to provide evidence of the individual's personal progress. Transport is also arranged as part of the programme.

Outcomes from Outdoor Achievements

Our practitioners keep detailed records of each session and, where applicable, will focus on a number of the following to track development over time:

  • motivation/engagement
  • confidence
  • social skills
  • empathy
  • self-awareness
  • relationships with adults
  • relationships with peers
  • wellbeing
