Physical Activity, PE and School Sport

Information for educators in Physical Activity, PE and School Sport (PESSPA)

Quality Physical Education (PE) supports children and young people to develop their physical competence and confidence and supports their wider social, emotional and cognitive learning in and through movement.

A quality PE curriculum, with broader connections to school sport and whole school physical activity, promotes positive attitudes to lead a healthy active life, both in and out of school.

The Hampshire PE team consists of primary and secondary PE specialists who enjoy working with people involved in the PE, Physical Activity and School Sport (PESSPA) delivery in schools. We provide health and safety guidance as well as support for Senior Leadership Teams and Heads of Department. We also work with PE subject leaders in curriculum planning and development, and facilitate whole staff training in a range of PESSPA activities.

We work several awarding organisations; 1st 4 Sport, Institute of Swimming, Leadership Skills Foundation and Swimming Teacher Association to offer national qualifications. We also work with other Hampshire County Council teams including HIAS, Travel Planning Team, Public Health, Insurance and Health and Safety and other national and local partners such as Association for Physical Education (AfPE), Youth Sport Trust (YST), Sport England, Energise Me, School Games Organisers and local universities to provide training and guidance for schools in all aspects of PESSPA.
