Cancellations and delays

If your child’s journey is delayed or cancelled we will contact you as soon as possible either by email or text message. We will use the contact information given to us in your application, so it is important you keep us updated with any changes.

If the route is cancelled, you may be able to claim travel expenses for arranging to take your child to school.

How to claim travel expenses for a cancellation

If the route is cancelled, you can claim expenses for the miles you drove or for bus or taxi fares incurred as a result of the cancellation. You have three months from the cancellation date to submit a claim. Any claims made three months after the cancellation date will not be accepted. You will need to keep the receipts and submit them with the claim form.

You can only claim for trips already made. This will be checked against our cancellation log and school attendance data. You can't claim for future trips. If you think you may need to claim for more than one day, wait until the end of the week or month before submitting your claim.

If you have recently applied for transport for your child and it has been approved, it can take up to 15 working days from the approval date to arrange suitable transport. You cannot claim any travel expenses whilst you are waiting for transport to be arranged. You can find the approval date on the Education Online Portal where you made your application.

If you are claiming for mileage only

To make a claim for mileage, you must submit a School Transport Expense form.

If you are claiming for mileage and/or other types of transport

To claim for all other types of travel expenses, you must submit a School Transport Expense form, and also submit your receipts using the online enquiry form. If you do not complete both forms, this could result in your expense claim being delayed.
