School transport applications (updated 11 September 2023)

We have received a number of enquiries regarding transport for school aged and post 16 children and want to assure those affected that we are working hard to investigate and respond to all issues raised.

We understand that some families are currently waiting for their child’s transport arrangements to be confirmed. In the majority of cases, this is due to applications being submitted after the 31 July deadline, which unfortunately reduces the likelihood of having transport in place for the beginning of September. We would ask families in this situation to please bear with us while we work to assess your applications as quickly as possible.

The transport market also continues to be extremely challenging and we have seen a number of transport providers hand contracts back to us, as well as a high rate of sickness among our Passenger Assistants. These issues have all added to the current challenges. We do accept that in some instances this has impacted our ability to communicate with families in a timely way and where this is the case, we want to apologise for any anxiety that may have been caused.

For those wishing to discuss changes to existing transport arrangements, unfortunately we are not currently in a position to review these requests while we prioritise outstanding transport arrangements as outlined above. We will be in touch with families to discuss individual arrangements from the end of September at the earliest.
