Could you make a difference to the lives of Hampshire’s young people?
Hampshire’s children in care are among the most vulnerable in our community and their care is one of our most important responsibilities. We are looking for resilient, compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our high-performing teams, across the county, supporting these young people.
Hampshire’s children in care
Most of Hampshire’s children in care are looked after by our foster carers in family homes across the county, with a smaller number of children being looked after in our residential care homes. In these homes they are supervised, encouraged and mentored by our dedicated professional staff, all of whom are trained and supported to ensure they have the right level of expertise to deliver this care.

Five great reasons to work for Hampshire County Counci
- Our Children’s Services are recognised by Ofsted as being some of the best in the country.
- Tailored development plans and professional support within a teamwork environment.
- Training and progression opportunities.
- We offer a local government pension scheme, night enhancements and Saturday pay, as well as salary step progression.
- Our modern homes are located within the community with excellent transport links.
Training and support
We appreciate that, to support our most vulnerable children, we need to support our staff to do so. This is why all residential care staff are required to achieve a Level 3 qualification as part of their role, which must be completed within two years of starting employment. This qualification will equip staff with the knowledge they need to ensure that Hampshire’s children continue to receive the high levels of care upon which we pride ourselves.
Further training opportunities for staff include the Pillars of Parenting programme and access to Hampshire County Council’s wide range of training and learning development assets, which are well known to be outstanding.
These qualifications empower our staff with the knowledge and skills that they need to understand and respond appropriately to the emotional, behavioural and attainment difficulties experienced by children in care.

About the homes
Within our residential care homes, we want to provide a standard of care that provides children with the same security, safety and structure of a good family environment, meaning that high quality accommodation is crucial. Our residential care service comprises nine homes with up to four beds in each.
We pride ourselves on our ability to enable young people to develop their independence in a safe and supportive environment. We have nine homes, all of which are near to good transport links, within walking distance of schools and with good access to leisure activities. The design of our homes is based on feedback from children in our care, on features that they said would be important to them in a family home, such as a door at the front of the house and a fireplace in the living room.
