The importance of Hampshire’s landscape is reflected in:
- the National Parks of the New Forest and South Downs
- three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
- numerous designated wildlife and archaeological sites
- a wealth of historic towns, villages and individual buildings
Areas outside these designated landscapes are also rich in features of natural and cultural significance.
It is essential that the whole landscape is understood and valued when considering planning, design and management issues.
