Sexual and reproductive health

Information, referral pathways and resources for sexual and reproductive health services

Introduction

Good sexual health supports happy, healthy lives and stronger communities. With the right information and services, people can make informed choices, prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies, and enjoy safe, respectful relationships, whatever their age, gender or background.

Services commissioned by Public Health

Free sexual and reproductive health services in Hampshire, including information and advice, contraception, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, are available to everyone, including young people under 16. You can access support through Let’s Talk About It via telephone, online, or in person. The service also offers dedicated walk in clinics for young people and is commissioned by Hampshire County Council.

The service offers free and confidential contraception, including coils, implants, free condoms and emergency contraception (sometimes known as the morning after pill or Plan B).

In addition to contraception, the service provides free sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, psychosexual counselling, and HIV testing, treatment and care.

Hampshire people can also get free coils and implants for contraception through their GP and free emergency contraception from participating pharmacies.

Organisations currently providing or interested in providing Public Health Primary Care Services (Long-Acting Reversible Contraception and NHS Health Checks) can find further information on how to apply, contracts and service specifications: Public Health Primary Care Services

Referral pathways

People can self-refer by telephone or make an appointment on the Let's Talk About It website. Walk-in clinics are also available to provide advice and practical help for young people.

Professionals can refer to the outreach nurse service, the sexual health promotion team (this page also details referral eligibility and pathways), complex sexual and reproductive health service, sexual assault referral centre (SARC) (non urgent only), HIV services and psychosexual therapy.

Clinicians can contact the service by calling 0330 3002016. You can also email [email protected] for urgent clinical advice. The aim is to respond within two working days.

Training and resources

The Let's Talk About It network service provides a range of training for professionals working with young people locally, and webinars for professionals and parents and carers.

Clinical training includes clinical conferences, Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation (STIF) courses, Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (DFSRH) and Letters of Competency in Intrauterine Techniques (IUT) and Subdermal Contraceptive Implants (SDI).
