Our Trees - Tree Planted by Elizabeth II, 2003
A cross between Acer griseum (The Chinese Paperbark Maple) and Acer maximowiczianum, a common Chinese maple species.
This is a beautiful and very rare hybrid tree. A cross between Acer griseum (The Chinese Paperbark Maple) and Acer maximowiczianum, a common Chinese maple species. At the time of it's planting by Elizabeth II on the 21 November 2003, it was the only specimen in the country. The attractive bark is cinnamon-brown and delicately flaking. The tri-lobed leaves turn stunning shades of red and orange before leaf fall in October/November. A small tree with a large, broad canopy.
