Improving accessibility and making it pleasant for the local community

Last update: July 2025

Latest updates

Hampshire County Council has appointed M Group Highway to carry out investigatory highway night works on Brook Lane.

Works start on Monday 9 June and will be completed by Friday 13 June. The permitted working hours are 8pm to 6am, with noisy elements to finish by 11pm.

The following investigation works will be undertaken:

  • Investigation coring survey. Workers will drill small holes in the road to take samples. (These samples help them understand the road’s condition);
  • Ground radar surveys to identify underground utilities;
  • Trial holes. Carefully dug holes in the ground to see what the material make-up is. (These holes help plan for safe and efficient roadworks/repairs);
  • Skid resistance testing to measure the surface grip levels of the current road.

Advance warning signs will be in place. Emergency vehicle access to properties will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian and resident access will be maintained at all times.

There will be a northbound and southbound closure, and a signed diversion route will be in place. The diversion route can be found on Causeway one.network link.

Scheme overview

Hampshire County Council is proposing the installation of two zebra crossings on Brook Lane, located on either side of the access to Fareham Community Hospital. The scheme includes buildouts at each crossing point to help reduce vehicle speeds and to widen the footway, enhancing pedestrian accessibility. The new pedestrian facilities are designed to provide safe and convenient access to key local destinations, including Fareham Community Hospital, Brook Lane GP Surgery, and the Royal Mail Sarisbury Green Delivery Office.

Please see the improvement proposal and location plan (Microsoft Sway document).

This proposal forms part of Hampshire County Council's Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4), which aims to deliver a carbon-neutral, resilient, and inclusive transport system by 2050.

Works expected to commence Winter 2025/26.

Funding Arrangements
Funding to support the delivery of the scheme has been received from Active Travel England through Tranche 4 of its Active Travel Fund (ATF4). Additional funding for the scheme will also be drawn from the North Whiteley major development area section 106 (s106) agreement secured as part of the planning permission granted for the development, which included a financial contribution to improve local walking and cycling access between Segensworth and the new development, including a new pedestrian/ cycle link adjacent to the A27 Segensworth Link.
