Andover Weyhill - Active Travel Improvements

Encouraging safe and sustainable active travel in the area.

Last update: June 2026

Scheme Overview

The A342 Andover Road, Weyhill Pedestrian Improvements project will deliver a new footway along the north side of the A342 Andover Road in Andover, providing a safer and more accessible walking route for residents. This enhancement is designed to support the growing community by improving connectivity to new residential developments and offering a secure, well‑defined space for pedestrians along a busy corridor, ultimately encouraging active travel and improving overall accessibility in the area.

This scheme supports Hampshire County Council’s Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4) by creating a new footway that provides safer, more accessible walking routes for short local trips, particularly for residents of the new nearby development. By improving pedestrian connectivity and offering a dedicated, clearly defined space away from the carriageway, the project helps encourage walking as a practical, sustainable travel choice. These enhancements promote healthier, low‑carbon journeys and align with LTP4 priorities of supporting active travel, reducing reliance on private cars, and improving overall community accessibility.

Funding Arrangements
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
