Proposed Puffin Crossing on the B2177, Bishops Waltham

Supporting healthier lifestyle choices, making it safe and pleasant for all.

Last update: August 2026

Scheme Proposal

A new Puffin crossing is proposed on the B2177 to provide a safer and more convenient place for people to cross the road when travelling to and from Bishop's Waltham town centre.

The proposed crossing would improve access to local shops, services and the town centre, making it easier for people to walk, wheel (for example, wheelchair and mobility scooter users) and make everyday journeys.

Key benefits of the proposal include:

  • A safer crossing point on the B2177 for people who walk or wheel.
  • Easier access to local facilities and the town centre.
  • Improved accessibility for the local community.
  • Better connections between local homes and key destinations.

The proposal aims to make travelling around Bishop's Waltham easier, safer and more accessible for everyone.

This project supports Hampshire County Council’s Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4), which aims to improve travel options, make walking and cycling safer, and help people get around more easily in their communities.
This proposal builds on accessibility improvements completed in autumn 2025, including new dropped kerbs and tactile paving. Find out more about the completed pedestrian improvement works on Houchin Street and Bank Street (MS Sway).
Funding Arrangements

Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals.  In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers.  This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
