Hampshire County Council appointed M Group to carry out highway vegetation clearance works, including tree pruning, on the B3047 Bishops Sutton Road between Mill Lane and Sun Lane near Alresford in May 2026.
- Scheme overview
-
To make it easier and safer for people to travel between Bishops Sutton and Alresford, which are linked by the busy B3047, this scheme introduces a series of improvements designed to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Improvements include:
- widening of the existing footway on the northern side of the B3047 where space permits
- installation of new informal crossing points at key locations along the B3047
- construction of short missing links to connect existing sections of footway
The route between Bishops Sutton and Alresford is well used by the community, but existing pedestrian facilities are limited or inconsistent in places. The improvements will:
- enhance pedestrian safety
- improve connectivity between the village and Alresford
- encourage active travel
- provide safer access to local destinations, including Long Barn
This project supports Hampshire County Council’s Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4), which aims to improve travel options, make walking and cycling safer, and help people get around more easily in their communities. - Funding Arrangements
-
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
