Crow Lane Footway Improvements

Improving pedestrian access with a new footway to support safer and more accessible journeys for all.

Last update: July 2025

Schemes Overview

A scheme is being developed to extend the existing footway between the junction with Hightown Road and the footpath located north of Chard Lane. The proposed footway will be 2 metres wide and constructed entirely within the existing highway boundary.

The extension aims to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety in the local area. Due to a known flood risk in the Crow Lane area, significant drainage improvements will be required to support the construction of the new footway.

Exact timescales are yet to be confirmed, as funding arrangements are still being finalised. Subject to full funding and approval, works are expected to be scheduled during the summer months, when weather conditions are more favourable for construction.

Supporting Hampshire County Council’s Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4) by creating a safer, more accessible walking route that encourages active travel for all.

Funding Arrangements
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
