Scheme Update

As part of the wider Boorley Green transport improvements (scheme webpage), Hampshire County Council has appointed Hope & Clay Construction Limited to carry out works at Crows Nest Lane, Botley.

The scheme will introduce a modal filter at the junction of Crows Nest Lane and Winchester Road. A modal filter prevents motor vehicles from travelling through a route, while keeping it open for people walking, cycling, wheeling and horse riding. Residents and visitors will still be able to access properties by vehicle from either side of the filter.

The scheme aims to improve safety for all users of Crows Nest Lane by reducing through traffic on this narrow rural lane.

Works are currently expected to commence in October/November 2026, subject to final programme arrangements.

Traffic Regulation Order

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has been approved by the Director of Universal Services on 9June 2026, for the introduction of a no entry restriction between Crows Nest Lane and Winchester Road, Botley. Please read the Decision Record.

Funding Arrangements

Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
