Fletchers Field to Liphook Station Accessibility Improvements
More space for walking and cycling - safer, greener travel in Liphook
Last update: June 2026
- Scheme Overview
-
Hampshire County Council is delivering improvements at Fletchers Field, Liphook, to improve access for pedestrians, cyclists and people using wheeled mobility aids between Portsmouth Road (B2070) and Liphook railway station, via Midhurst Road.
The scheme will upgrade existing footpaths and junctions to enhance connectivity, safety and accessibility along this route. By providing a wider and more continuous footway and improving crossing points, the scheme will make it easier and safer for people to travel between the local area and the station.
Key improvements include:
- Widened shared path – the existing path across the green space will be widened to three metres to better accommodate walking, cycling and wheeling.
- Improved access and connections – a new path will link to Fletchers House, with easier access into the green space for all users.
- Safer crossing points – hazard (bumpy) paving will be added at the eastern end, and dropped kerbs on Midhurst Road will be improved to strengthen links to the station.
- Upgraded junction at Fletchers House – the junction will be narrowed and redesigned to prioritise pedestrians.
- Street lighting – lamp posts will be repositioned to improve visibility and safety.
- Parking control measures – road markings will be introduced to prevent parking in the turning area at the end of the road, ensuring vehicles can turn around safely.
- Drainage improvements – existing road drains at the Fletchers House junction will be reconstructed.
Hampshire County Council's Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4), by improving access to active travel routes, creating a more inclusive transport network, and encouraging walking, wheeling and cycling for everyday journeys.
- Funding Arrangements
- Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
