Milk Lane Junction Footway Improvements, London Road, Waterlooville

Improving accessibility, promoting healthier lifestyle choices and making it pleasant for all that travel through the area.

Last update: June 2026

Scheme overview

We are proposing improvements to the existing footway at the junction with Milk Lane to make it safer, more accessible, and easier to use for people that walk and cycle. The current footpath will be removed and replaced with a new route positioned closer to London Road, following the natural pedestrian movement (desire line). The new footway will be wider and designed as a shared use path for both pedestrians and cyclists.
To improve crossing safety, changes will also be made to the junction layout. The road will be narrowed and realigned to reduce crossing distances and discourage vehicles from passing side by side at the exit arm. These changes will help create a safer and more comfortable environment for all users.

This scheme supports the objectives of the Hampshire County Council’s Local Transport Plan (LTP4), which aims to create safer, more accessible and sustainable transport networks. It contributes to LTP4 by improving conditions for walking and cycling, encouraging active travel, and helping to reduce reliance on short car journeys. By providing a more direct, safer and better-quality route, the scheme supports healthier lifestyles, improves local connectivity, and enhances the overall public space.

Funding Arrangements
Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
