-
Hampshire County Council is proposing improvements in Farnborough to make it safer and easier for people to walk in the local area. The scheme focuses on Minley Road, near its junction with St John’s Road, where a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing is planned.
The key objectives of the scheme are to:
- Improve pedestrian safety, particularly for schoolchildren and vulnerable users
- Provide a safe and accessible crossing point between Minley Road and St John’s Road
- Make it easier to walk locally, including journeys to school, shops and other amenities
- Encourage more people to walk, supporting healthier and more sustainable travel choices
This proposal aligns with Hampshire County Council's Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4), which envisions a carbon-neutral, resilient, and inclusive transport system by 2050. LTP4 focuses on reducing reliance on private cars, promoting active lifestyles, and supporting sustainable economic development. Aiming to create safer, more accessible, and environmentally friendly public spaces that reflect the principles of LTP4.
- Funding Arrangements
- Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
