Hampshire County Council appointed Rocon Contractors Ltd to carry out the improvement works between Crampmoor Lane and the first service road towards Ampfield, a new section of cycle route has been constructed as part of the wider Romsey to Ampfield active travel scheme, along with an improved uncontrolled crossing on Crampmoor Lane. The construction works included:

  • Existing pavement widened
  • Tactile paving (bumpy paving) installed
  • Pavement resurfaced
 
Scheme overview

The scheme aims to improve access along The Straight Mile for people walking and cycling. The improvements will run between Crampmoor Lane and the first service road towards Ampfield, creating the next section of the Romsey to Ampfield active travel route. 

This scheme supports the principles of Hampshire County Council’s Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4), which promotes active travel, sustainable transport, and improved accessibility for all users.

Hampshire County Council advertised a public notice for a 30 miles per hour speed limit extension on A3090 Winchester Road from Friday 5 December 2025 until Friday 2 January 2026.
Funding Arrangements

Funding for the transport capital delivery schemes is separate from the County Council’s revenue budget and savings proposals. In the majority of cases funding comes from external grants and / or Section 106 contribution from developers. This funding usually has conditions that strictly control on how, where and when it can be spent.
