Trade waste at Household Waste Recycling Centres HWRCS
Disposal of business waste at Household Waste Recycling Centres HWRCS
- Where and when to take trade waste
The majority of HWRC sites in Hampshire will be offering the service from Monday 3 October 2016 except Efford and Southampton (City Depot).
The trade waste service will be available Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays.
A date for the delayed introduction of the service at Southampton will be advertised on Southampton City Council's website if and/or when it is agreed.
- Materials you can dispose of
As a trade customer you may deposit all waste types which are currently accepted at HWRCs from householders except for the following:
- cement bonded asbestos
- fridges, freezers and other cooling equipment
- any display screens (e.g. TVs or monitors)
- fluorescent lighting tubes
- hazardous paint (denoted by the orange hazardous symbol)
- hazardous substances or chemicals
Asbestos is not accepted at the HWRC sites from trade customers.
- Charges and payment
The cost will be dependent on the amount and type of waste. Example charges provided by the site contractor (Veolia UK) based on a full load of non recyclable residual waste are shown in the table below.
Recycled and segregated waste streams will likely be charged less.

- Licences and vehicles
Businesses or traders carrying waste arising from their work must hold a valid Waste Carrier’s Licence from the Environment Agency, which should be shown to site staff when using the service.
Small businesses do not require a commercial-type vehicle permit as these are for householders only, but must make themselves known to a member of staff on arrival to arrange payment.
Commercial-type vehicles such as vans are acceptable up to a maximum weight of 3.5 tonnes. Vehicles heavier than this will not be permitted access. Trailers are permitted up to a maximum length of 3m (approx. 10ft), this applies to the ‘box’ loading area of the trailer and not any attachments or towbars
