Social Media
We want our social media channels to be places for healthy and open conversations about what is happening in Hampshire’s communities, as well as keeping residents informed of the work of the County Council, and highlighting key projects and services available.
Our accounts are monitored several times a day from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
We want to help ensure our audiences find them a safe and welcome place for discussion. While all comments are read, and our aim is to be as responsive as possible and to help where we can, we are unable to respond to every individual comment. We will refer people with specific enquiries to the relevant department where possible, or signpost people to the various different ways that they can have their say. We are unable to comment on individual cases or matters of County Council policy, but where there are common themes emerging, we will ensure those comments are relayed to the relevant Council departments for information.
Users of our channels must comply with the specific Terms of Use and Community Guidelines of the various individual platforms, and we also ask that contributors do not post material that:
- uses obscene language, including adapted spellings with the same meaning
- is defamatory, misleading or false
- is discriminatory in any way
- makes malicious allegations
- is a matter subject to ongoing litigation or sub judice
- is persistently negative and/or abusive and in which the aim is to provoke a response on a single issue - we will not tolerate or respond to abusive messages
- encourages or support illegal activities
- incites hate crimes
- solicits commerce
- compromises the health and safety of the public, or Hampshire County Council’s or its civil contingencies partners’ response to an emergency
- violates the legal ownership interests of any other party
- violates the privacy of others
- identifies and comments on the performance of an individual member of staff
- is of a party political nature – we are obliged to maintain political neutrality in our communications, and cannot allow comments which promote party political messages or other content
- is completely off-topic and irrelevant to the post.
It is not County Council policy to block contributors or delete comments that criticise or disagree with its approach in any way, but we reserve the right to remove or restrict comments or posts published on any of our accounts which fall into any of the categories above.
In rare circumstances we may be forced to take action to ban individuals who persist in continually posting such content and/or report them to the associated social media platform.
