A growing sector
Hampshire's space sector is part of the wider Space South Central cluster region, which is the largest regional space cluster in the UK. It generates more than £9 billion and represents 7% of the UK Space industry. Hampshire has more than 180 companies operating in the space and satellite sector, engaged in high-tech innovative work, employing more than 3000 people.
The regional space sector is a mix of businesses (large and small, new, and established) and world-class universities. They combine to demonstrate the global impact, dynamism and breadth of space capabilities that is unrivalled anywhere else in the UK.
The Centre of Excellence for Satellite Applications located within the University of Portsmouth work with the UK Space Agency and the industry and the science base in Hampshire to accelerate the growth. World leading players based here include InSpace Missions, Ultima Forma, Satixfy, Viasat, Airbus UK, Lockheed Martin, QinetiQ and BAE Systems.
These companies are at the heart of the space sector in the region.
