Our aim is to better align the skills people have or want with the skills our businesses need. If we improve the skills of our current and future workers, we can support economic growth. To reduce any skills gaps, we hope to:

  • raise the ambitions of young people
  • help employers develop their staff by providing the right training
  • understand our labour market needs now and in the future

We will work with local stakeholders, businesses, universities, colleges and other training providers to achieve this.

Apprenticeships

An effective way of growing a workforce in line with your company’s own standards and values. Employers can receive financial support towards training apprentices.

Apprentices develop the skills they need to progress rapidly in their jobs, making a more effective workforce. The Apprenticeship and Skills Hub can support employers to access the skills offer by providing impartial advice and guidance regarding all thing’s apprenticeships and skills.

Some examples of the flagship employers we have worked with are Enterprise Rent a Car, Bid Foods, IBM, British Airways, Lenovo, Fullers Pubs.

If your business is interested in finding out more about how Hampshire County Council can support employers without access to levy funding with the Apprenticeship Funding for Business Transfer Scheme, email [email protected].

We are very fortunate to have access to such a huge talent pool here in Hampshire and I believe the environment, infrastructure and business climate has enabled us to succeed.

Retrofit

As part of Hampshire County Council’s Climate Change Strategy we are working with the Retrofit Academy to enable, support and deliver a reduction in residential related carbon emissions.

The Retrofit Academy:

  • provides a collaborative approach to the supply of skills and training opportunities supporting employers, training provision and potential employees
  • work with local colleges and training providers to deliver new regulated Retrofit qualifications (Level 2 to 5)
  • support the scale-up of installer (trade) courses covering building fabric and renewable energy

By working together we are ensuring a co-ordinated response to current and future skills demand for retrofit in social housing and the able-to-pay market across Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Retrofit Hub Steering Group

We have also put in place a Retrofit Hub Steering Group, bringing together representatives from:

  • local authorities
  • DWP
  • FE Colleges
  • training providers
  • social housing providers
  • green community voluntary organisations
  • construction employers of all sizes
  • any other identified relevant stakeholders

We welcome new members to the group, if you would like to join email Katie Matthews ([email protected]).
